Study on Choice Reaction Time as a Complementary Method in Idiopathic Orofacial Pain

Taking into consideration that investigations of cognitive performance in chronic pain is under researched, especially the area for neuropathic pain patients which is very poor, the paper herein has the main objective to analyze an Idiopathic Orofacial Pain (IOFP) correlation with a quantifiable increase in latency when performing complex CRT tests compared to the standard values of a healthy individual of the same gender and chronological age. Hence, it is presented a study built on a specific literature and based on the hypothesis that five elements associated IOFP pathologies, as menopause, age>50 years, depression and/or anxiety, mild cognitive impairment (nonamnestic), chronic pain syndrome, may modify CRT tests in order to provide the CRT argument as a complementary way to IOFP stratification. This study opens up new scientific perspectives to be validated in terms of IOFP behavioral and cognitive assessments, as well as to new advanced CRT system implementations in the eHealth regime.
