Pharmaco-technical profile of Lythri herba freeze-dried extract based on SeDeM methodology

The SeDeM expert system is a methodology used in preformulation studies of tablets by direct compression, for the physical characterization and classification of powdered substances. The application of functions of this method upon solid plant material represents an innovative trend in biotechnologies and contributes to development of data compendium, in a structured and standard form. In this article, the features of the SeDeM system and the graphical interpretation of the obtained results are applied upon the powdered extract of Lythri herba siccum, a standardized pharmacopeial plant material. The purpose of research is attaining the pharmaco-technical profile, the correlation of the physical properties with the phyto-chemical composition and the standardization of the freeze-dried extract. Future insights of this study may involve the addition of multifunctional excipients to correct the deficiencies in compression and to achieve tablets by direct compression or wet granulation.
