The Development of Compact Patch Antenna Array with High Angular Resolution for 77GHz FMCW Radar Applications

In this paper, a novel patch antenna array is designed for 77 GHz MIMO radar applications. It is based on a massive MIMO array with 192 virtual channels. Array elements are placed to form a minimum redundancy array and a sparse array in azimuth and elevation dimension. And the ambiguity function associated with the array is introduced to improvement of the system performance. Furthermore, computer simulation and array signal processing methods jointly verify the performance of the proposed MIMO array. Finally, the prototype of array is processed and the experimental results also show the improvement of the resolution of the array. Therefore, our work prove that this array can improve the angular resolution of the MIMO radar.
