Influence of Orifice Plates on Taylor Bubble of Geyser in Storage Tunnel System

The storage tunnel system is an important project to solve the shortage of urban storage capacity and prevent waterlogging, geyser phenomenon is a serious hydraulic accident in the system, and it is of great significance to study geyser characteristics and flow control measures for safe operation of storage tunnel system. In the present work, the bubble rising process in the vertical pipe was studied used numerical simulation method, the influence of orifice plates on Taylor bubble of geyser in storage tunnel system had been analyzed in detail. The research results indicated that orifice plates had a significant effect on Taylor bubble of geyser, under the action of orifice plates, the bubble shape, bubble pressure and flow field structure are fundamentally changed due to the influence of local jet flow and entrainment air, the difference value between the bubble pressure head and the water column height and the pressure gradient of water column were greatly reduced, which leaded to a significant reduction of the bubble rising height and the maximum bubble velocity, this was beneficial to reduce the intensity of geyser in storage tunnel system.
