Study on External Pressure Buckling of Penstock in Hydropower Station Based on Eigenvalue Stability Analysis

In order to study the external pressure buckling feature of penstock in hydropower station, a penstock was taken as the research object and the eigenvalue stability analysis method was used. The influence of different working conditions on the change of stress and displacement were studied, and the critical value of local buckling of penstock to withstand uniformly distributed radial pressure was given. The results show that the maximum circumferential stress and Mises stress on the pipe wall appear at the junction of the steel pipe and the stiffening ring, respectively; the cross section of the deformed steel pipe is oval, and the maximum displacement occurs at the pipe waist or pipe top. The critical value of local buckling of penstock is 0.173 MPa. The research results are helpful for the design of penstock.
