Performance Evaluation of Multilevel DC-AC Converter To Interface EV Battery For V2H Application

This article presents a performance evaluation of a multilevel DC-AC converter to interface electric vehicle (EV) batteries for vehicle-to-home applications (V2H). In this work, two five-level boost type switched capacitor multilevel inverters (SCMLI) are studied, and their performance is evaluated and compared on two key factors mainly: total harmonic distortion (THD) and capacitor voltage ripples. Both the SCMLIs have a single voltage source which makes them more suitable for V2H applications. The first topology consists of nine active switches and one capacitor, while the other has eight active switches and two capacitors. Both the topologies are modeled in the MATLAB/Simulink environment, and the results show that the first topology has low voltage ripples while low THD is obtained by the second topology.
