Applying Remedial Action Schemes Using Sensitivity Analysis for Undergraduate Research

Remedial action schemes (RAS) aid in electric transmission grid resilience by specifying appropriate corrective actions to mitigate undesired results of specific adverse contingencies. This paper considers, in an undergraduate research initiative, how transmission loading relief (TLR) methods can be applied to create RAS to address significant line overloads in contingency conditions and maintain system reliability. These methods are applied to design RAS for a 7000-bus system, and the results show that RAS successfully addresses the violations by using sensitivity-based technique that determines a proper corrective action for a specific contingency.
