Algorithm for Maximization of Integral Availability in Software Defined Networks

One of the most important characteristics of the functioning and provision of services within the framework of a telecommunication network is availability, since no other characteristic of the network will matter in the absence of timely access to network resources. This is especially true for corporate networks, where the impossibility of completing network tasks in scheduled time can have a negative impact on the profit of the organization. Traditional networks are no longer able to provide this characteristic properly due to a number of reasons, such as: traffic growth leading to congestion, protocol obsolescence, equipment conflicts of different vendors, configuration complexity, etc. As a solution to a number of problems currently facing telecommunications networks, are considering moving to a software-defined networking architecture that allows network elements to be brought under the control of configurable software. SDN allows you to change and add the desired functionality to the logic of the network. However, the topology rebuilding capabilities provided by SDN are not being fully utilized at this time. Therefore, in this article, the authors propose an algorithm for optimizing the integral indicator of the availability of corporate software-defined networks (CSDN) by reconfiguring the topology of network switching and routing facilities, which allows you to adjust the CSDN topology to changing external conditions and the problem being solved. The assessment of the network availability is made on the basis of the described methodology developed by the authors earlier. As a result of the operation of the algorithm on the model, an increase in the availability indicator of up to 22% is achieved.
