Ocean Target Investigation Using Spaceborne SAR under Dual-Polarization Strip-map Mode

Ocean target observation under different synthetic aperture radar (SAR) modes is always a hot topic with the development of the universal spaceborne SAR technique. Now the dual-polarization mode is more popular in spaceborne SAR systems, as dual-polarization is easy to be realized in system design and data storage comparing to quad-polarimetric mode. For ocean target monitoring, this paper analyzed the dual-polarization ocean data from TerraSAR-X (TSX) and Gaofen-3 (GF3) under Strip-map mode as the strip-map mode is the most basic imaging mode. The ocean target scattering characterization is discussed based on TSX HH-VV and GF3 VH-VV data sets, which can be further studied for metallic targets especially the ocean ship detection.
