Design and Analysis of LFMCW Radar with the Signal based on Microwave Photonic Generation

This paper presents the design of LFMCW radar system based on the signal generation of microwave photonics technology. It introduces the system design method, demonstrates the technical parameters of each component, and analyzes the performance of the radar system. The system uses the external signal with low-frequency and narrow bandwidth to obtain the 6 times frequency signal carried on the laser through the dual-parallel electro-optic modulator, and then realizes the high-frequency and broadband radar signal through the photoelectric detector, and then transmit via the antenna. At the receiving end, the method of electric de-chirping is used to down convert the radar echo signal. After analog to digital conversion, ranging and imaging are processed. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that under the condition of average transmitting power of 10W, the range of continuous frequency modulated continuous wave radar based on this system can reach 5km.
