Characteristics of A Circular Optical Waveguide Made of Chiral Metamaterial

The paper considers the effect of the optical activity of a crystal on the dispersion characteristics of the fundamental mode of a circular optical fiber. A rigorous mathematical model of the propagation of a light wave in a circular optical waveguide was constructed taking into account the optical activity of the material. In an analytical form, the dispersion equation for the fundamental eigenmode is obtained, which, in the absence of optical activity, transforms into the well-known dispersion equation for the fundamental mode of a circular fiber. Expressions are obtained for the vectors of the electromagnetic field in a circular optical fiber taking into account the optical activity of the media. An analysis of the dispersion characteristics of the modes of an optical waveguide is carried out for the case of quartz and lithium niobate. It is shown in this work that taking into account the optical activity is fundamental at frequencies significantly higher than the cutoff frequency of each mode.
