The Novel Printed Log-Periodic Antenna with Dipole-Like Radiators Excited by Using the Modified in-Phase Power Splitter

The article deals with the novel printed log-periodic antenna. It contains a printed assembly of the so-called center-end-fed dipole-like stretched radiators. The modified printed-circuit-board two-layer topology of the power splitter is proposed in order to excite the modified log-periodic dipole-like antenna composed of the center-end-fed dipole-like radiator. This splitter is based on the slot-line-microstrip transitions. The systematic analysis of the splitter as well as the log-periodic array itself is presented. All the key geometrical dimensions are derived through the nonlinear parametric optimization using the 3D full-wave solver like “CST Studio Suite”. Prior to implementation of the whole printed log-periodic antenna, the main fragments of that were manufactured and successfully tested. The experimental results agree well with the simulation-derived ones. The incorporation of proposed splitter and radiator into design procedures leads to increase the degree of freedom in microwave region that paves a way for next generation of the ultra-wideband microwave antennas.
