EM BOUNDARY AND RADIATION CONDITIONS

At macroscopic scales, the boundary surface between two different media is sharply defined. As a result, the macroscopic electromagnetic (EM) fields can exhibit a discontinuous behavior across such a boundary. The boundary, radiation and edge/tip conditions must be satisfied to obtain unique solutions to EM boundary value problems. In the case of radiating objects (antennas/scatterers) of finite extent which give rise to antenna/scattered fields in unbounded space, these fields must also be required to satisfy a boundary condition at infinity. It is clear that Maxwell's equations played a key role in the development of the special theory of relativity, besides predicting all EM phenomena at macroscopic scales including the existence of EM waves, and unifying optics and EM. The chapter provides the information of constitutive relations for a moving medium.
