Detection of Ending Winding Wear Regulation Acting by Electromagnetic Force in Synchronous Generators under both SISC and SAGE Conditions

This paper presents a completed investigation on the electromagnetic force characteristics of the stator end windings under stator inter-turn short circuit (SISC) conditions. Not only the single SISC or static air-gap eccentricity (SAGE) case are considered, but also takes the combined impact of SISC and SAGE condition into account at the same time. The entire work depends on the theoretical analysis and finite element method (FEM) verification. It is found that the electromagnetic force will be increased tremendously when SISC happens, particularly at 2nd, 4th and 6th harmonics. The nose and the joint between the line part and the end part on the short circuit windings are the most dangerous positions to suffer the insulation wearing.
