Coupled Thermo-Mechanical Stress Analysis of Insulation in Deep-Sea Oil-Filled Motors

Compared with normal electrical machines, deep-sea oil-filled (DSOF) motors operate in high pressure environment, which will lead to a great change of coupled thermo-mechanical stress (TMS) distribution and further influence insulation lifetime. This paper proposes an analytical model for TMS analysis of stator insulation in DSOF motors considering the impact of high pressure in deep sea environment. The finite element analysis models for motor temperature distribution and TMS analysis were established and the accuracy of the proposed analytical model was demonstrated. And it can be concluded that comparing with the motors working in normal environment, the TMS on insulation of DSOF motors is greatly reduced.
