Analysis of Flux Leakage in Slot and Circulating Current Loss of PMSM with Concentrated Winding

In this paper, the distribution of flux leakage in the slot of concentrated winding permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) under different conditions is analyze. And the circulating current loss of PMSM is investigated, whose armature windings consist of parallel wires. First, for a 12-slot 10-pole motor with concentrated winding, the distribution of flux leakage in the slot is studied. Then, the impact of the loss caused by the circulating currents in the parallel armature wires is estimated by finite element analysis (FEA). Additionally, the circulating current loss is reduced by transposing and reducing the number of parallel conductors. Finally, the temperature rise experiment of a 12-slot/ 10-pole motor proves the effectiveness of the FEA.
