Design and Development of a Chip Thermal Characterization and Operating Junction Temperature Measurement System for ADN8834 TEC Controller Using ESD Protection Diode Voltage Method

Thermoelectric cooler controller products such as the ADN8834 used in different field of applications such as medical, automotive and others, experience a harsh and very dynamic environment. While the ADN8834 guarantees operation up to +125°C junction temperature, whether the junction temperature exceeds operating junction temperature rating of +125°C at the ambient temperature of −40°C to +105°C and guaranteed functionality at a full load of 1.5A output current in applications is evaluated. The problem is solved by the design and development of a system that does the measurement of the actual junction temperature of the ADN8834 TEC controller chip from −40°C to +105°C operating ambient temperature using the ESD protection diode voltage method while performing functional verification giving a guarantee on the functionality and reliability of the product at −40°C to +105°C operating ambient temperature.
