A 12.5Gbps Novel SerDes Transmitter for JESD204B Physical Layer

JESD204B interface is widely used in the data transmission of data converters and logic devices. The paper presents the design of a SerDes transmitter, which is compliant with the JESD204B standard. A novel technique for Current- Mode-Logic (CML) driver is implemented, which is used for increasing the speed of parallel-to-serial conversation and solves the design difficult of the CML driver and serializer. On the other hand, multiplexing the driver circuit could achieve de-emphasis easily for compensating for channel loss. This transmitter could support data rates up to 12.5Gbps which is the maximum data rate specified in the standard. This SerDes transmitter occupies area of 0.38 mm
²
for one lane and consumes only 30mW power consumption under 1.25V supply in TSMC 65nm LP CMOS technology.
