Analysis and Design of Wideband Graphite Antenna for Wearable Communication Applications

A graphite-based wideband antenna working on industrial scientific medical(ISM) band with flexible and light features is presented in this paper, which can be applied into wearable communication due to its high electrical conductivity, ease to bend, chemical stability, and being environment-friendly. The antenna adopts coplanar structure, owing a low profile and tight outline, with all the radiation parts made of graphite instead of copper, and is printed on textile. The graphite antenna model is designed, simulated, and optimized before fabrication. Results indicate the proposed antenna covers a wide bandwidth in ISM band, with an isotropic radiation pattern. Guided by design, proposed prototype is fabricated and measured under several typical scenarios, revealing graphite antenna's impressive performance, application flexibility, and promising future in wearable communication.
