Photonic Generation and Switching of Multi-Format Chirp Waveforms With Anti-Dispersion Transmission

We present a novel photonic approach for generating switchable multi-format chirp waveforms with the capability of anti-chromatic dispersion transmission using a dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (DDMZM). The key functions of the switching among up-, down-, or dual-chirp waveforms and the anti-dispersion transmission are both realized by controlling the bias voltage on the applied modulator. Experiments are conducted to demonstrate the generation and switching of chirp waveforms centered at 4.5 GHz and 4.8 GHz with a bandwidth rate of 0.4 GHz/
$\mu \text{s}$
under back-to-back condition. Besides, another experiment on the transmission of the generated 4.8-GHz signals along dispersive optical fiber is also demonstrated, which verifies the dispersion-induced power fading can be successfully eliminated.
