Adaptive Boundary Filtering Strategies in VVC Intra-Prediction for Depth Video Coding

The versatile video coding (VVC) standard has been finalized recently, but it did not take into account the different characteristics of depth videos. The purpose of a method presented in this paper was to improve intra-coding efficiency of depth video coding in versatile video coding (VVC). The proposed method enables to turn on/off intra-boundary filters used in VVC intra-prediction on the fly. Experimental results clearly demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method over the conventional VVC intra-prediction in terms of rate-distortion (RD) performance.
