Abstract:

Existing water grid and water quality monitoring systems are manually operating and low-efficiency systems. Water leakage and contamination cannot be identified in existing systems. We proposed an Internet of Things (IoT) based Water monitoring system to monitor quality of water, leakages, contamination, and to manage pipeline networks. Generally, water flow starts from an administrator tank (Water head tank) through a pipeline. The value of the flow sensor at the admin tank is treated as a reference and all remaining long-distance nodes (flow sensors) are compared with it and identify the possible leakages. If any leakages are found, then that information is sent to the cloud. Admin and repair person will get notification from the cloud. In this paper, the proposed system measures five water parameters like Potential of Hydrogen (pH), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Temperature, Turbidity and Flow Rate. All this data is transmitted to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform hosted in Firebase, and made available to both the admin dashboard and User mobile application (App). If any deviations occur in water quality, then the user will get the notification and he/she can take a precise decision. Every end-user is provided with a mobile app that engages them to see their usage and water quality. Users can be charged based on the usage of water and the app provides them the facility to pay for the water used and the admin can control all the Smart Valves in a grid when needed. Admin Dashboard consists of all the functionalities required to manage users, identify leakages, and check historical data.
