Study and Analysis of a Novel Hexagonal Core PCF for Broadband Supercontinuum Generation

A novel hexagonal core Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) has been reported numerically for Supercontinuum (SC) generation in the mid-infrared region. The geometrical parameters have been tailored for broadband SC in the anomalous dispersion regime. The proposed PCF of 10 mm length has been pumped at
$3.1\ \mu\mathrm{m}$
wavelength with a pulse having a power of 4000 W and a temporal width of 50 fs. A broadband SC ranging from
$1.7\ \mu\mathrm{m}$
to
$18\ \mu\mathrm{m}$
has been obtained. The generated SC falls in the mid-infrared region and can be utilized for applications which include optical coherence tomography, spectroscopy, frequency metrology, early cancer cell detection, hazardous material sensing, etc.
