Design and development of low-cost portable function generator

Function generator is considered as one of the most commonly used electronic test equipment. These are widely used in academic institutions, research labs and industries to test the response of circuits to known input signal for design, development, test and repair of electronic equipments, generating clock signals for digital circuits, emulate carrier waves for communication systems, generate pulses to test event triggering in systems etc. In this paper, design and development of low-cost compact and portable function generator is proposed in two different variants. One variant employs switches to select the type of waveform and frequency and the second variant uses touch screen to perform the same. The proposed system is designed using 32-bit ARM core microcontroller and can generate frequencies ranging between 0.5kHz and 67kHz, depending on the type of waveform selected.
