Internet of Things for Human‐Activity Recognition Based on Wearable Sensor Data

Human‐activity recognition (HAR), with low‐power wearable devices, can revolutionize health‐ and activity‐monitoring applications. There has been growing interest in HAR with the prevalence of low‐cost motion sensors and smartphones. This chapter presents the first HAR technique that continues to train online to adapt to its user. It focuses on Internet of things (IoT)‐based HAR systems or simply IoT‐HAR systems. The chapter further demonstrates that the recognition strategy can identify exercises irrespective of the cell phone's position. The HAR system is often implemented on mobile or wearable devices. The technique implemented in this system basically recognizes activities by using an algorithm. This happens in two phases: evaluation phase and validation phase.
