Power System Operation in the presence of Flexible Prosumers considering System Congestion

In the daily operation of the power system, there are different ways to operate the system. Also, there would be disturbances that lead to congestion in the power system. The ability of the power system to respond to those disturbances, also called power system flexibility, is an important power system criterion. The first part of this paper assesses the power system performance under different objective functions using optimal power flow analysis. The second part of the paper studies the impact of using flexible loads and prosumers on the power system performance during congestion events by carrying out optimal power flow analysis. To obtain results, three power systems were used: the IEEE 5-bus system, the modified IEEE 5-bus system with flexible loads, the modified IEEE 5-bus system with Prosumers. It is found that an enhancement in performance took place after adding flexible loads and prosumers. Moreover, congestion is managed effectively in the presence of flexible loads and prosumers.
