Security in 5G Wireless Networks

This chapter introduces the current solutions and research results on security of fifth generation (5G) wireless network systems. The 5G wireless network systems will have huge improvement in communication bandwidth, transmission latency, coverage, and energy efficiency. Cryptography will be used to 5G security services including authentication, availability, confidentiality, and key management. The chapter discusses that there are three major drives for 5G wireless security: supreme built‐in‐security, flexible security mechanisms, and automation. A new security architecture is needed in 5G networking paradigms. Typical new elements at the control plane of 5G wireless security architecture are cloud based computing systems. The chapter focuses on introducing the new implementations in physical layer security, including power control, artificial noise, and signal processing. 5G wireless network systems introduce several new techniques, such as heterogeneous networks, massive multiple‐input multiple‐output, device‐to‐device, software defined network, and internet of things.
