Electrical System Planning of High-Speed Electrified Railway System in Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) of Thailand using VAR Control Technique

This paper presents the electrical system planning of the high-speed electrified railway system in Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) using the VAR control technique. The power resource was supplied from the power station to a highspeed electric train in the EEC. The distance between Chachoengsao junction station to Map Ta Phut station was about 155 km. The technology of the flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) used in this paper was the STATCOM. The model of the 43-bus distribution system in the EEC, therefore, the load real power and reactive power were included as 1860.725 MW and 612.151 Mvar, respectively. The Newton-Raphson power flow solution technique was utilized to calculate the voltage and phase angle profiles of each bus of the proposed power system. The particle swarm optimization techniques were also carried out under voltage stability conditions at a constant load. The simulation results revealed that the STATCOM devices installed in the proposed power system with 31.234 Mvar STATCOM at bus no.11 could improve the voltage stability. Another electric bus at the long-distance line that the power generator installed was still maintained the voltage stability index in the whole power system.
