Performance Characteristics Analysis According to Design Parameters of a 13 kW Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor for Reducing Cogging Torque

In this study, a 13 kW interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) was designed, and a characteristics analysis performed to reduce cogging torque. In the initial design, the rotor size was determined using the torque per rotor volume (TRV) method. Subsequently, the d- and q-axis inductances were calculated using the vector diagram of the IPMSM, and the voltage and torque equations were determined. Characteristics analysis was performed according to the current phase angle. In addition, the torque and power characteristics according to speed were analyzed. Thereafter, an optimal model that reduced cogging torque was presented through a characteristic analysis of the magnet width and slot opening, and finite-element method (FEM) was used for accurate cogging torque analysis.
