Abstract:

Bioimpedance is a property of the tissues, muscles, bones, organs, and other human body components. Because specific bioelectric parameters are associated with anatomical and physiological properties that allow detecting any medical condition, bioimpedance measurement is increasingly used in biomedical and health applications. For the bioimpedance measurement, it is necessary to know the geometry of the medium to be measured since certain electrical characteristics may vary depending on it; this phenomenon is known as anisotropy. On the other hand, bioimpedance measurement equipment is expensive, and it is not portable. Therefore, in this article, bioimpedance measurements are made in chicken muscle tissues by correlating these measurements with the tissue anisotropy using a spectroscopic technique, which consists of taking measurements in a specific bandwidth through a frequency sweep. Measurements are made using the evaluation board EVAL-AD5933. In this article a detailed description of the anisotropy of the muscle tissues, and the bipolar bioimpedance measurement methodology are presented. The prototype presented is low cost and easy to implement.
