A 1-Bit Reconfigurable Antenna in Ku-Band

In this paper, a reconfigurable 1-bit antenna in Ku-band is presented for phased array antennas applications. The novel reconfigurable 1-bit antenna is composed of two magnetic dipole and a switchable feeding part. By changing the switching states, a stable phase difference of 180° is achieved owing to the structural symmetry instead of the reconfigurable 180° phase shifter. To verify our design, the proposed antenna is fabricated and measured in Ku-band. It can operate within the bandwidth from 14.5 GHz to 15.2 GHz. The half-power beamwidths (HPBWs) of the antenna are 70° in E-plane and 79° in H-plane.
