A Miniature Tri-Band Folded Shorted-Patch Antenna for 5G Communication

This paper presents a miniature tri-band folded shorted-patch (FSP) antenna. By properly exciting three different operating modes of the FSP, a tri-band property can be obtained with the help of two matching shorting pins and slots. Miniaturization was achieved by shorting one end of the folded patch to the ground with a shorted wall. On the other hand, a metal-strip attached to the ground helps to lower the upper resonant frequency. Consequently, the proposed antenna has a volume of 0.25 Aox0.20 A0 x0.075 A0 (where A0 is the free-space wavelength of the lower band), covering the frequency bands of 2.42-2.7GHz, 3.36-3.66GHz and 4.78-5.04GHz, respectively.
