The Design and Operation Features of the Near-airfield Zone Weather Radar Complex “Monocle”

The article presents brief results of the development, testing and trial operation of a near-airfield zone weather radar complex. The relevance of the development of a small-sized X-band meteorological radar is justified. The basic requirements that a modern near zone meteorological radar should meet have been formed. The structure, design features and key performance parameters of the near-airfield zone weather radar complex “Monocle”, the information processing organization for obtaining final meteorological products are described. Examples of meteorological data generated by the complex, the values of ranges and discreteness of their formation, that demonstrate the possibility of their using in the airfield zone, are given. The main ways of improving the near-airfield zone weather radar complex “Monocle” in the directions of combining complexes into a network and using new signal distinctive feature in the classifying meteorological phenomena algorithms are described.
