Application of the PV systems for non-linear load current compensation

Non-linear loads, that are nowadays widely used have an effect of raising the level of current harmonics, and subsequently voltage harmonics in the grid. At the same time, the implementation of PV systems is spreading over households enabling additional supply and the inclusion of ancillary services. This paper investigates the possibility of the application of PV systems as an active power filter to improve the quality of electricity in the residential part of the electricity network. The Matlab/Simulink model was developed and tested for the average residential network. The results show that such a possibility is justified and can have positive effects.
