ProteSOS: A MHealth System for Improving Coverage of the Prosthetics and Amputees Unit at the Central Military Hospital

Due to the armed conflict in Colombia, the Central Military Hospital (HOMIL) attends more than 2000 lower limb amputee patients nationwide. These patients are attended by the Amputee and Prosthetics Unit (UPA) within the Hospital or by means of a Workshop Car in different rural areas of the country, attending "Brigadas". The attention given to these patients in rural areas, although very good, tends to be a delayed process and with little communication between patients and professionals. Therefore, we designed a user-centered M-Health system (called ProteSOS), that is expected to reduce patient care times and improve communication between amputees and HOMIĹs professionals. In the paper, we describe the design and development process of the system and preliminary user validations.
