Design of an Automated Management System to Improve Productivity in a Manufacturing Line Based on Industry 4.0

Improving productivity in a productive system is a constant objective of the industries around world and it is only possible by measuring the main parameters of the processes and not from the financial perspective, the indicator for equipment effectiveness (OEE) and the theory of constraints (TOC). However, the practical use of these management systems is complicated at an operational level, mainly due to excessive human intervention and manual collection policies, having major economic repercussions in the short and long term. Based on this problem, this research has developed an automated management system that allows the measurement of the parameters involved in the production processes based on Industry 4.0 and leads to improve the productivity of the entire system under the measurement of OEE and the use of the theory of constraints TOC. The system was tested in a plastic parts assembly and packaging manufacturing line where the OEE of the constraint resource improved from 67.33% to 86.62%, this is an increase of 19.29%. It indicates that a level of good competitiveness is reached in world-class values for a production test of 40 days.
