PUF Implementation Using Competing OTPM Devices in Novel 5T-2OTPM Differential Configuration

Physical unclonable function (PUF) is an important circuit component for realizing cyber-physical security of data and electronic systems. In this work, we present a low-cost PUF implementation using metal–insulator–metal (MIM)-type PECVD SiO
₂
-based one-time programmable memory (OTPM) devices. We present a custom Verilog-A compact model of OTPM devices for complete PUF hardware implementation in the 180-nm CMOS technology. The implementation of PUF scheme based on a novel differential bit cell using OTPM devices shows strong performance in terms of uniqueness, reliability, and uniformity without additional overheads in terms of bit error correction and postprocessing.
