Millimeter-Wave Antenna Using Dipole and Loop Modes for Enhanced Bandwidth

An enhanced impedance bandwidth (IBW) antenna employing asymmetric substrate integrated coaxial line (SICL) feed is proposed. The antenna achieves enhanced bandwidth by combining dipole and loop antenna modes. The antenna leverages readily available out of phase signals provided by SICL technology to obtain simple feeding mechanism. The bottom ground plane along with the via-wall is utilized as cavity backing to enhance the gain. Full-wave simulations show that the antenna exhibits fractional IBW of 13.5% and gain ≥ 7.4 dBi with total antenna efficiency ≥ 80%.
