Monitoring System for Balance Board Simulating Side-riding Board Sports

This paper described a prototype system to monitor and visualize behaviors of a balance board that simulates side-riding board sports, such as surfboards and skateboards. The proposed system consisted of a balance board with a wheel and a 9-axis sensor device and drawn the board behavior with graphic animation in real-time. Experiments using expert riders and beginners were conducted and compared their behaviors. The results showed that expert riders tilt the board back and forth and right-and-left in small increments compared with beginners.
