Quantification Calculation Methods of Inertia Support Provided by New Energy Units

With the rapid development of new energy in the future, wind power and photovoltaics are introduced to replace the synchronous generators on the power generation side, which will bring great challenges to the security and stability of the power system. In this paper, two modes of providing inertia support for the power grid by new energy units are introduced firstly. Then the quantitative calculation method of the inertia provided in virtual inertia mode is proposed. Finally, the validity of the calculation method is verified in the IEEE 9-bus system, and the parameter sensitivities are analyzed at the same time. According to the proposed calculation method of inertia, the minimum equivalent moment of inertia that the new energy units need to have under different conditions can be clarified, which provides theoretical support for the arrangement of operation modes of the power grid.
