A Wideband and Simply-Constructed Cavity-Backed Antenna Element with Filtering Response

A wideband cavity-backed antenna element characterized with filtering feature is proposed in this work. The antenna is simply-constructed, which mainly consists of a metallic cavity and a slotted radiation plate. Benefiting from the multi-resonance phenomenon contributed by the cavity and slots, a good filtering characteristic is obtained, which is capable to suppress unwanted interferences and results in a good electromagnetic compatibility in practical application. Results show that the antenna demonstrates a reflection coefficient below –10 dB at the band from 7.05 GHz to 11.60 GHz with filtering response, and the radiation patterns are stable within the passband.
