Synthesis of W-band Transmitting and Receiving Shared-Aperture Sparse Phased Array Antenna

In the high frequency band like the W-band, the Transmitting and Receiving (T/R) components of phased array antennas are usually challenging in terms of layout. Besides, the transmitting phased array and the receiving array are preferred to be separately placed in the same aperture with different elements. The reason is the switch has poor performance at such a high frequency. In order to solve this problem, we make the transmitting phased array and the receiving array sparsely and place them in the same radiating aperture. Furthermore, to reduce the complexity of the large aperiodic array design and the fabrication cost, it is better to design a large-scale array constructed from the same sparse sub-arrays. But this method may lead to the deterioration of the sidelobe level (SLL) within the scan range. Here, the sub-array is rotated to reduce the periodicity imposed on the array element layout and improve the SLL.
