Dual-Band 8-Port 5G MIMO Antenna

A dual-band 8-port multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is presented for the China fifth-generation (5G) 3.5 GHz band (3.3-3.8 GHz) and 4.9 GHz band (4.8-5.0 GHz) in this paper. Eight antenna elements excite dual resonant modes to realize 8 × 8 MIMO applications in the desired bands. The single antenna element is composed of an E-shaped strip with a rectangular strip, and a L-shaped slot with an inverted L-shaped slit in the ground plane. A T-shaped slot is inserted into two adjacent antenna elements for achieving better isolation. As a result, the isolation in both operating bands are better than 15 dB for the proposed antenna system. The calculated envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) between antenna elements is below 0.05, which provides a reliable anti-interference for the proposed system. The proposed dual-band 8-port MIMO antenna system exhibits a great potential in 5G MIMO applications.
