An Ultra-compact Implantable Antenna for Wireless Cardiac Pacemaker System

A tiny and compact implantable antenna for wireless cardiac pacemaker systems is designed. The antenna serves the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) frequency band, which is from 2.4GHz to 2.48GHz. The antenna adopts a folded spiral structure to effectively extend the current path and greatly reduce the size of the antenna. The overall volume of the antenna is 3.429 mm

. Through literature research, the design is the smallest structure in the same type of implanted antenna and maintains a better radiation performance. The antenna covers the entire ISM frequency band with a bandwidth of 6.4%. The specific absorption rate (SAR) of 1g of the antenna is 13.76 W/kg, and the SAR value of 10g is 4.73 W/kg. The results of antenna simulation analysis and optimization show that this antenna is the best choice for realizing wireless biological telemetry communication in the extremely compact space of the wireless cardiac pacemaker system.
