Birefringent Metasurface and Its Application to Dual-polarized Reflectarray Antenna

Here, we propose a birefringent metasurface (MS) that can realize independent 3-bit phase control upon orthogonal linear polarizations (LP) around 10 GHz. Then, this MS is combined with two orthogonally polarized Vivaldi antennas to form a dual linear-polarized (LP) reflectarray antenna (RA). The low-gain primary radiations from the two Vivaldi antennas are both collimated into high-directional beams in the broadside direction. Prototype is fabricated and measured, and measured results show that the RA achieves peak gain of 23.2 dBi, peak aperture efficiency (AE) of 24%, 1-dB gain bandwidth (BW) of 10% for both polarization.
