Single- and Dual-Band Bandpass Frequency Selective Surfaces on Shorting Pins Loaded Patch Resonators

In this paper, single- and dual-band high-order bandpass FSSs with low profiles are presented, which are realized by shorting pins loaded patch resonators. Firstly, two shorting pins are introduced in a single square patch resonator to excited TM
010
(TM
^z
xyz) mode and TM
100
mode simultaneously, which can extend the bandwidth of pass-band. Secondly, four of such patch resonators are arranged together to form a composite patch resonator, where each patch is orthogonal with the adjacent ones, which can eliminate influence of the cross-polarized reflection caused by the TM
100
mode. The proposed FSS element consists of three metallic layers, where the upper and bottom metallic layers are the composite patches, and coupling apertures are etched on the middle metallic layer. Finally, a single-band and a dual-band high-order bandpass FSSs are designed on the proposed FSS element, respectively.
