Influence of Basin Insulator on Transmission Characteristics of UHF Signal in GIS

In order to study the PD detection and location in GIS, the dynamic propagation process of Partial discharge signal (gauss pulse) in GIS cavity is simulated based on XFDTD software, the influence of the existence of the basin insulator on the UHF signal propagation characteristics of the sensors at different positions in GIS is studied. The experimental results show that the amplitude of UHF electromagnetic wave of GIS cavity with basin-type insulator is only half of that without basin-type insulator, that is, the basin insulator in the GIS cavity will cause the obvious attenuation of UHF electromagnetic wave signal. Therefore, when the sensor in the cavity of GIS checks the defect, there should be no basin-type insulator around the measuring position, which can improve the detection sensitivity.
