Optimization of Vertical Wind Turbine Performance in Tunnel Area of Coal Conveyor

As a renewable energy, wind energy is one of the good energies to be developed using wind turbines. The wind source to drive the wind turbine can be from natural wind sources and exhaust wind from the equipment. Tanjung Enim is one of Indonesia's areas with relatively low wind energy, where the average wind speed is around 1.5 - 3 m / s. In Tanjung Enim, there is a coal mine, wherein the mining handling equipment there is equipment that generates wind, namely the tunnel area of the coal conveyor line. In this area, there is a blower that is used for air in the conveyor line. There is a wind exhaust that can be used to drive wind turbines. The wind speed in the tunnel is 8 m /s to produce optimal output in a vertical wind turbine. A combination of blades, namely Savonius and Darrieus, is used. This research, comparing the performance of blades on vertical wind turbines, namely 3 Savonius blades combined with 3 Darrieus blades and 4 Savonius blades combinations with 4 Darrieus blades placed in the tunnel area of the coal conveyor line. This study shows that the performance of the 3 blades wind turbine combination of Savonius and Darrieus is more optimal than the 4 blades combination of Savonius and Darrieus. The output voltage and current produced by a variety of 3 blades of Savonius and Darrieus is 14% and 109% higher than the combination of the 4 blades of Savonius and Darrieus.
