A Double Band-Notched UWB Antenna Based on Complementary ERR-Defected Ground

In this paper we introduce the complementary electric ring resonator (C-ERR) for a defected ground structure (DGS) in deal with a double band-notched ultra-wideband (UWB) planar antenna. The microstrip-fed monopole circular patch configuration was used for a baseline UWB planar antenna. It shows the UWB band response over 2.513 GHz. With applying the C-ERR based DGS structure into the baseline antenna, the notched frequencies were generated over that of the UWB band. The mechanism of the coupling effect is potential to dominate the electromagnetic process between the C-ERR element and microstrip feed-line. The targeted notch frequencies were designed in a control of a relevant dimension of the C-ERR element.
