Design of interstitial ring-slot applicator for microwave hyperthermia

Summary form only given. The structure of a thin ring-slot applicator for microwave hyperthermia and a typical measured specific-absorption-rate (SAR) distribution are described. A high iso-SAR was obtained at the tip, but the distribution tailed off along the cable to the surface of the phantom. This is attributed to a reflected electric current flowing back along the outside of the cable. An equivalent circuit model that can be used to improve the design of the applicator is shown.<
